"Wally", age 83, of Farmington, a tireless advocate for Farmington area veterans, its youth and the many charitable endeavors of the Groves-Walker Post #346 American Legion, passed away April 24, 2018. He had been in failing health for some time.
Born August 15, 1934, in Reserve, Montana, he was the son of Axel and Irene (Moore) Christensen. He married Lorraine E. (Stock) on December 1, 1956, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Farmington.
Wally is the beloved husband of 61 years to Lorraine; devoted father of Walt Jr. (Mary), Douglas, Gerald (Michele), Catherine (Bill Collins) Lysak, Elizabeth "Libby" (Mike) Szymanski and Mike (Jodi); loving brother of Diana (Ernest) Sweeten, Dennis (Pat), Sandra (the late Dale) Pound, Larry (the late Doreen) Krueger, Michael (Susie), Kathy (Pat) Bolen, the late Chris (the late Phyllis), the late Richard (Pat) and the late Katherine; cherished grandfather of Kristina (Anthony) Flora, Dana, Alyssa, Matthew, Malia, Tanner, Andrew, Adriana, Caitlin and Genevieve; and great grandfather of Sean, Antony and Nikola.
The Christensens will receive guests at the funeral home on Sunday, April 29th, from 2-8 pm, with a 7 pm American Legion Memorial Ceremony.
Wally's funeral mass will be celebrated Monday morning, April 30th, at 10:00 am (in state 9:30 am) Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Rd., Farmington.
Interment, including military honors, will follow at North Farmington Cemetery, Farmington Hills.
