Arlene Goodman, 89, Minot, formerly of Ryder, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 at a Minot nursing home.
Arlene was born on May 4, 1928 on her family’s farm south of Ryder, North Dakota to Albert and Minnie (Lewis) Brandt. She attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Ryder High School in the class of 1946. Arlene was once married to Lynn Sorenson, with whom she was the owner operator of the Blue Blazer Bar in Ryder for several years. He died in 1983. Arlene also worked for many years as a book keeper for Sweetheart Bakery in Minot. Later she married Marvin Goodman. He died in 2000.
Arlene was well known in the Ryder area as the organist for St. John’s Lutheran Church. In her younger years, she also played the accordion. In retirement, Arlene became an accomplished cook, preparing many holiday meals and baking family favorites. She enjoyed decorating her house and yard and raising garden produce. Arlene also enjoyed painting with Artex.
Arlene is survived by her son Gary Sorenson, Bismarck; daughter Gayle (Russell) Semmen, Ryder; sister Edith (Larry) Cvancara; grandchildren: Amy (Lance) Makeeff, Chad (Mandy) Semmen, and Mickey Semmen; great-grandchildren: Jordan Semmen and Kacee Makeeff; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and brother Glen Brandt.
