Biografi for: Betty Lou Franklin
Betty L. Moore, 73, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Amelia Place in Council Bluffs, from complications of diabetes.
Betty Lou was born on November 22, 1944, in Alliance, Nebraska, the daughter of Henry Dwane and Mabel Christine (Nelsen) Franklin. The family moved to Atlantic when Betty was still an infant, where her dad operated the Knotty Pine Cafe. She graduated from Atlantic High School in 1963, and Omaha Commercial Extension School of Business.
On January 16, 1965, she married Larry Purscell at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Soon after their marriage the couple moved to Council Bluffs and were blessed with one son, Steven. Betty began working for Mutual of Omaha where she was an editor and proofreader. She was a dedicated employee and retired in 2009 with 36 years of service.
On October 22, 1982, Betty married Darrell D. Moore, at the 1st Christian Church in Council Bluffs, where they both attended. They later attended Lighthouse Temple and El Bethel Assembly of God for many years. They shared many memories camping and traveling to California, Colorado, and Las Vegas. An event that always stood out to Betty was her trip to Cancun, which was a prize from a pull-tab on a Taco Bell cup. It wasn't a vivid memory simply due to winning, but because of the work it took to convince not only Darrell, but the rest of her family that her story was true and that it wasn't one of her pranks!
Betty was an active member of El Bethel Assembly of God, where she participated in women's ministry and music jamboree on Friday nights. She organized the "7 Group" which consisted of good friends gathering for cookouts, birthdays, or any chance just to get together. Betty's witty ways seemed endless and will be missed by all that knew her. Her sense of humor could often be found incorporated into words of caring and encouragement in the countless cards she mailed. She loved music and attended the Gospel Music Festival in Pella for several years. In 1994, Betty attended her first Covered Bridge Festival in Winterset and enjoyed it so much that she made it a point to attend almost every year since. She hadn't seen the movie of Bridges of Madison County until shortly after her first visit but proceeded to watch it at least 50 times!
Betty is survived by her son, Steve Purscell of Papillion, NE; grandchildren, Allysen and Alexis Purscell of Papillion, NE; sister, Katie (Roland) Kuster of Council Bluffs; nieces and nephew, Susan Snell, Julie Kuster, Amy (Roy) Brown, Terry (Pam) Weldon and Virginia (Jack) Weldon; great-nieces and nephews, Alyssa, Logan and Nathan Snell and Kaylee Brown; her church family; and several friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mabel Franklin; husbands, Larry Purscell and Darrell D. Moore; sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene (Harold) Weldin and Marlene (Bob) Cummins; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service at the funeral home starting at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
